More About Us

History

Tonway Tyres (Pty) Ltd was started in 2000 by Tony Kalis and Wayne Sauvage. The name Tonway was derived from a combination of their respective names, Tony, and Wayne. Initially, Tonway was a retail tyre outlet supplying the domestic and commercial market with new and retreaded tyres. In 2003 Capital Bandag, a retreading factory in Rosslyn, Pretoria was purchased and later, the retail outlet was sold. Tonway Tyres became a Bandag Franchise supplying exclusively the quality Bandag retreading products. A second factory was opened in 2013 also in Rosslyn. The Tonway factory is the biggest single Bandag factory in South Africa and has achieved numerous awards and recognition from its franchisor, Bandag Southern Africa. The factory operates 24 hours a day, 5 days a week on 2x12 hour shifts. It retreads on average between 6,000 to 7,000 tyres per month with the capacity to increase to around 8,500.
